As the month of March comes to a close, we want to say a special Mahalo nui loa to AlohaCare’s licensed social workers and social workers everywhere. Social work is the heartbeat of community care; it is a profession that requires a unique blend of clinical expertise, tireless advocacy, and deep-seated empathy. You deserve recognition not only during Social Work Month, but always.
We are so grateful for the immense experience and heart our social workers bring to our team. Their ability to navigate complex human needs with grace ensures that our members are never alone in their journey. In celebration of this month, several LBSW/CHW employees at AlohaCare shared their personal thoughts about their work and messages for their fellow social workers:
Reflections on Social Work
“The first thing I look forward to each day is connecting with our members. Every day is different, and I’m motivated by knowing that even a small interaction can help reduce stress or open a door to much-needed support. Being out in the community on Hawaiʻi Island also gives me a strong sense of purpose and connection to my community.”
“One core value from my social work training that I continue to carry with me is the importance of meeting people where they are. This means approaching every member with empathy, without judgment, and recognizing that each person’s experiences, challenges, and readiness for change are unique.”
“Social Work reminds me to always start where the client ‘is.’ It has also taught me to look at the bigger picture and not take things at face value.”
“Social Work isn’t just about mental health or medical health. Social work is everything in between.”
Messages of Solidarity
“To my fellow social workers: your work matters more than you may realize. The time you take to listen, advocate, and show up with compassion creates lasting impact for individuals, families, and our communities. Please remember to care for yourselves, lean on one another, and be proud of the difference you make every day.”
“Thank you to all the social workers for your dedication, empathy and difference you make every day. Your work often happens behind the scenes but the impact is meaningful.”
“Your work is important even though it is barely acknowledged or celebrated. Social Workers are the unsung heroes.”
The compassion our social workers weave into every member interaction is what makes AlohaCare more than just a health plan, it makes us a support system. By addressing the “everything in between,” you help our members achieve true well-being and dignity. We see the long hours, the emotional investment, and the specialized skill you bring to every case.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication and for the profound difference you make in our community every single day!
